Welcome to Holland!!! Yesterday, it had snowed, off and on, all day. Less than an inch accumulation, however, Vince had said that this was “a lot of snow.” OK, cool. I can handle this. Winter Wonderland and all that. Since Vince had a dental appointment over in Germany, he lent me his car to toodle around in. Excellent! During the day yesterday, I’d procured required kitchen items of a higher quality than what the lending closet lent to me, so I figured to park the car in the garage in order to get all my goodies out. Well, by the time I got home last night, it had to really start to snow! Almost an inch an hour over the next 3-4 hours. No problem, he thought. [Famous last words!!!]
{Que tragic music}
BIG PROBLEM!!! This morning, I find that there’s about 6 inches of snow – in the driveway to the garage, which is on an incline!!! I thought nothing of it last night for two reasons: 1.) Vince hadn’t seen it snow that hard before; and 2.) The snow didn’t previously last the night!! Just how the heck am I gonna get the car outta the garage without damage to it or the house or MY PRIDE?!?!?
{Ironic plot twist follows, listen well. Children, remember that it is better to have and NOT need than to need and NOT have!!! Damn Boy Scouts…}
Earlier last week, I’d visited the Ship’s Store, which is where I can borrow/replace things like street brooms, water hoses, light bulbs, power tools, etc. The guy had mentioned a snow shovel, however, “hee hee, you’re not gonna really need one of those ‘round here. Maybe over in Germany, hee hee hee.” |:< Who’s laughing now, Mr. Smart Guy?!?!?
What I end up doing is put on my girt, huge Mountain boots and start walking. I stomp, kick, push a path for the tires through the snow and ice up to the street. Trust me, driving that car outta the garage, I was taking it slow, in low gear, just eeeking along, not spinning the tires. I ended up making three separate stabs at getting out of the garage. The second one was the scariest as the back end of the car started to drift towards the house as it slid back down!!! After about 45 minutes I was able to get the car up onto the street. No damage to the car, house, nor my pride!!!
Oh, by the way, did I mention that it’d started snowing again, as I started this whole job??? No performance anxiety, to be sure!!!
Now, if only the internet would come back up, I’ll be able to post this up and check to see if they do snow days here!!! Pictures are posted.
