Stopped by to see the Margraten American Military Cemetary and Memorial. Wow… Another one of those sacred places. I got a couple of interesting shots; one of a windmill in the distance, another of the flag, and a grouping of Paratroopers from the 82nd. Brothers in Arms and at rest. Here’s another website showing more of the Memorial. Picture 443 shows the approach to the Memorial. There are two out buildings on the approach. The one on the right is the Visitor’s Center. The one on the left has a historic overview with very well done maps and narrative inside. Picture 447 shows a tower at the end of a reflecting pool. On either side are high walls with the ~1500 names of the missing soldiers. The wreaths next to the names indicate that those soldiers had been subsequently identified. Inside the central pillar is a tiny sanctuary which opens towards the cemetery itself. Picture 481 shows the inscription inside the right wall and 482 shows the left. 484 and 485 are of the dedication plaque inside the sanctuary.
